McPherson Youth Leadership Academy (MYLA)

McPherson Youth Leadership Academy (MYLA): In keeping with the purpose of developing youth leadership, the McPherson Youth Leadership Academy (MYLA) was founded in the Spring of 2010. Eighteen 4th & 5th graders were elected by their peers and/or referred by McPherson teachers. Together, these youth identified some school projects that they felt passionate about, worked together to find workable solutions and advocated to peers and adults for support. The incumbent MYLA students now continue to serve on the council as well a student panel to select new members from a pool of student applicants. MYLA is an important “link” in the educational and leadership pipeline that begins at McPherson Elementary School.
